I read the Shopoholic books just a couple years ago. Same thing. Nothing great about them but pure distraction..
My current read is Here on Earth - Alice Hoffman.

I've tried starting Life of Pi a couple of times, not sure I will make it through this time either...

I'm reading Pillars of the Earth for this as well and have actually just started it. Life of Pi has been on my radar forever too. Hope you enjoy The Book Thief it is one of my favorites!

Fantastic list! I have read Pillars of the Earth, Life of Pi and Oryx and
Crake. Never made it through Unless, but will try again. And Wuthering Heights
is my all time favourite. I think you'll enjoy your reading.
